Name: Sunstep
Age: 35 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: WindClan
Ranking: Warrior
Description:
Sunstep, despite not being as young as he used to be, looks exactly like he did when he got his warrior name 23 moons ago. His pelt is still sleek and shiny and fits perfectly over his well-developed muscles, dependng on what the season is and how well the Clan is fairing.
His pelt is a mixture of black and dark brown, but it's mostly dark brown. It's darker whenever it's wet, like most pelts are, and that's why some have been confused on whether Sunstep is brown or black. His eyes are bright amber and as intense as the sun, in that only the really brave or the really stupid look into them for too long.

Personality:
Sunstep has two favorite sayings that he likes to teach apprentices. The first is, "All good things come to those who wait." The second is more of a morality lesson than one about patience. "Everything good in life is worth waiting for." Of course, both is easier said than done, especially for anyone that isn't Sunstep. He's been blessed by StarClan with an over-abundance of patience. He could sit still for hours outside of a rabbit's hole, waiting for one to venture forward. It never bothers him.
When I use the words well-balanced to describe Sunstep, I don't mean physically. He is a perfect blend of peace and aggression, fighter and hunter. When meeting an enemy patrol at the border, he's never the first one to unsheath his claws. Likewise, though, he's never the last. Sunstep prefers to avoid conflict whenever possible. He doesn't like to spill unnecessary blood. It's for this fact that some of his Clanmates call him a coward.
Some of his other Clanmates often call him a creature of instinct. His usual retort is that, as wild cats, they're all creatures of instinct. But even he will admit that he has a freaky sort of sixth sense. He knows when something bad is going to happen when he wakes up in the morning, though he can never exactly say what's going to happen or when or how. Likewise, he knows when some cat isn't being truthful. He's come to rely on this freaky sense of his more than he would care to admit. Even on patrols that he isn't leading, his Clanmates know from experience when to listen to him.

History:
Once upon a time, in the territory of WindClan, there was a happy couple. Icewhisker, a brown and white she-cat, and Tigerstripe, a dark brown tabby tom, were in love. To everyone around them, they had the perfect relationship. And they did! They had no eyes for anyone but each other. They even had plans for the future. Two or three litters of kits, depending on how the Clan is doing, before they retire side by side. For the eldest kit, they would groom him or her to be a legendary warrior, worthy of being leader. But neither Icewhisker, nor Tigerstripe, would call it ambition. They would love their kin no matter what they wanted. They were ecstatic when Icewhisker became pregnant.
Kit
Cats were just settling down to eat and share tongues near evening when the air was split with a pin-fillwed yowl. Icewhisker had started kitting! She was in labor all through the night. She finished by dawn, and the Clan rejoiced at the squeals and mewls of two little kits. The elder one was a copy of Tigerstripe down to every tabby stripe. They gave him the name Sunkit, in honor of the sun that greeted them. His sister, a solid brown she-kit, was named Mousekit for her pelt and slim frame. Both kits shared Icehisker's amber eyes.
The kits grew normally together. They fought and argued and played with each other and anyone who visited. Tigerstripe visited nearly every day, whenever he could. He brought gifts for his kits as well, balls of moss to play with or feathers or tufts of fur found on the moors. He sometimes got lucky enough to find pieces of wool from a sheep's pelt. All four of them were the picture of a happy, loving family. That image continued even through their apprentice ceremonies.
Sunpaw was mentored by a dark gray she-cat named Hollythorn. She was a fair teacher, praising him when he did well and being stern whenever it was needed. It was a good match. Sunpaw was already patient to begin with, which was good. Hollythorn had a slightly eccentric nature that some others often found difficult to tolerate. Every night, he'd go to sleep with a new riddle or piece of philosophy to think on. He grew into a thoughtful cat with a fair amount of intellect.
If it wasn't for their looks, though, no one would believe that he and Mousepaw were related. Where he was calm and observant, she was loud and friendly. Not to say that Sunpaw wasn't friendly as well, she was just more in-your-face about it. If Mousepaw wanted to be your friend, then by StarClan you're going to be her friend! She won't take no for an answer and will continually insist that you're her friend.
This was both a pro and a con of being related to her. Sunpaw was usually dragged into whatever adventures she planned. While he loved his sister dearly, he sometimes wanted more than anything to bury her head-first into a fox's den. To make things worse, Hollythorn usually encouraged Mousepaw's annoyances, saying it'd be good training for when Sunpaw has an apprentice of his own in the future.
Sunstep and Mousenose were made warriors after passing their assessments. Sunstep, predictably, was given the characteristics thoughtfulness and patience when given his name. Mousenose's were more of a surprise. Loyalty and determination were named for her, and even Sunstep had to say that they fit spectaculorly. Hollythorn was proud of her former apprentice, like any mentor would be.
Until they turned 25 moons, nothing of importance happened. Then they got their own apprentices: Wolfpaw and Hawkpaw. Sunstep was mentor to Wolfpaw, and his patience was truly tested with this she-cat. She was reckless and hot-headed, always talking back to him and charging into things without thinking. More than once Sunstep almost lost his patience with her attitude, but he always kept his temper in check.
Mousenose had more luck with Hawkpaw in the first few moons than he did with Wolfpaw. Hawkpaw wasn't as reckless as his sister, preferring to have a strategy before he went in. He was curious about the world, but knew when to keep quiet and when to speak up. The four of them trained for four moons until the two apprentices participated in their first battle.
ShadowClan had been causing trouble by the border. A rabbit had been caught and killed inside of WindClan territory, and more than one patrol had been ambushed. This time, it would be WindClan that was doing the ambushing. Four cats had gone ahead to act as a regular patrol. Sunstep realized that Hollythorn was at the head of it. She must have been the patrol leader. Sunstep waited with his Clan, laying as still as a blade of grass on a windless day.
A yowl sounded the air, but it wasn't WindClan. A ShadowClan patrol streamed from their side of the border, hissing and spitting. Hollythorn and her three 'patrol mates' turned to face them. They'd been expecting the ambush, but not so many! The patrol of four were out-numbered four to eight, two enemy cats to each warrior. The waiting WindClan patrol watched to see how the beginning would play-out. For the first time in his life, however, Sunstep didn't want to wait and watch. He didn't want to be patient. Hollythorn was fighting cats who were both younger than her and bigger. His paws itched to race down there and finally the order to attack came.
The ShadowClan cats had whirled around in surprise. They hadn't expected reinforcements so soon. Sunstep immediately ran to Hollythorn's side, only vaguely aware that Wolfpaw was following after him. His former mentor was being pinned down by a black-and-gray tomcat who was twice her size. Sunstep leaped onto the tom's shoulder and heaved him backwards. It wasn't easy; Sunstep was only marginally larger than Hollythorn now.
He and Wolfpaw worked together to bring down their opponent and sent him squealing into the bushes. When Sunstep turned to see how Hollythorn was fairing, dread filled his belly. He and Wolfpaw hadn't helped at all, just to distract one extra opponent. Hollythorn's shoulder was bloody, and her hind paw dragged behind her. Still, she fought her remaining enemy brilliantly. Wolfpaw didn't wait for her mentor to give the signal; she dived right on top of the ShadowClan cat and bit down hard enough on his shoulder that Sunstep heard the scrape of her teeth on his bones.
After a brief fight, this cat was chased away as well. The ShadowClan patrol leader called the retreat and suddenly the WindClan cats were alone. Sunstep was relieved to learn that not many cats were badly hurt. Mousenose's ear was in tatters and Hawkpaw had twisted a paw, but other than that they were fine. Hollythorn's wounds were the worst, and Sunstep let her lean on him to keep the weight off of her dragging paw. He was surprised to hear her panting. Surely the pain wasn't all that bad? That's when he spotted the beginnings of silver hairs on her muzzle. She'd been a middle-aged when he'd been made her apprentice so long ago, just barely qualified to be a senior warrior. Now, though, she was gaining moons.
Hollythorn's shoulder healed fine in a moon, but her back leg was too badly hurt. She retired to the elder's den, and didn't seem all that unhappy with the decision. She told Sunstep in secret later that she'd been planning on retiring soon anyway. He'd been her last apprentice, and Sunstep knew that there'd always be a special bond between them, even in StarClan. Something good came out of the battle as well: Wolfpaw and Hawkpaw were both made warriors once their wounds were all gone.
Wolfpaw was given the name Wolfblaze, in honor of her spirit and fighting skills. Hawkpaw became Hawkstone, because of his immovable spirit and strength. That was five moons ago, and now all of them live in WindClan quite happily.
