Larkpaw's heart hammered in her chest, her ears twisting, trying to catch a single conversation. But she could only catch sentences, tidbits. He knew she was somehow in a battle. A paw hit her on one side and she fell over and words slid threw her head. 'Great job, Pinekit!' A taunting voice called out. Larkpaw leaped to her feet, looking around though she knew it was pointless. Her own voice taunted her. 'I know I can't be a warrior. I wish to be a Medicine cat apprentice.' And worse of all, a haunting memory seeped through her. 'Twistedthorn, she's our daughter.' 'No. My only kit is Pinekit. I will not father her. She is nothing to me.' She'd overheard her parents one night. And she would never forget. Suddenly something pushed her down. 'Pinepaw! Pinepaw! Pinepaw!' She heard the chanting s whoever pinned her down whispered in her ear, 'You worthless kit.'
Suddenly, she woke up. At first, she wasn't sure if that's what she was doing. Everything was still dark. But it was gone. A dream. She reassured herself. She knew it wasn't a sign from StarClan. It was a nightmare from her past.Shaking herself out, she quickly pulled her tongue along her flank a few times, still shaken. She was still fine enough, however, to laugh at herself. Great StarClan, after all the horrible histories in this clan, I have nightmares about mine? In comparison to others, this is nothing. The small tan cat made her way carefully out of the Medicine Den into the clearing. She glanced from side to side, before forcing herself not to snicker. She looked each way every time. As if she were going to see something.
She skirted around the edges of camp, as she often did. The small cat found it easier to avoid others this way. She'd been teased enough. She didn't go looking for trouble. Enough of it found her. She'd found her spot a long time ago. It was in rather tall cool grass where no one ever thought to look. No one cared enough to come looking. Larkpaw didn't know if they saw her. But, they didn't bother her. She didn't care more then that.

OOC: May I join in? =D
IC: A dark shadow weaved through the blades of long, cool grass, trying its best to keep from being noticed. The grass only made a little bit of rustling, and the ground beneath the shadow kept quiet. It had found this spot only recently, but it was something it dared call its own. It was cool, dark, and remote, perfect for its need.
Blue-purple eyes glowed when the shadow spotted a lone figure in the blades. It had seen her leave the camp and into the grass. Slowly, quietly, the shadow padded forward, seeing nothing more than the medicine cat apprentice. The shadow was about to turn around to leave, until a twig had snapped, giving it away. It didn't make a noise, but it's emotionless expression had a hint of anger at the twig for giving it away.
The shadow turned its head to the medicine cat apprentice, revealing it to be none other than Darkpaw. Her gaze held no feeling as she looked silently at the other she-cat.

Hearing the twig snap, Larkpaw spun around, ears pressed to the back pf her head, snarling. Though she couldn't see anything and was upwind, by the sound of the branch snapping, the cat must be a bit older then her, defiantly an apprentice, and close. It was enough for Larkpaw to go on the defensive. What, come to pick on the blind worthless cat? Like every other idiot who's bothered to get within a tail-length of me? Go on, tell them that I spend my time moping in the grass! See if I care!" The Medicine Cat Apprentice snarled, arching her back, fluffing her fur out.
Snarling, the young cat twisted past the cat towards the territory, bristling.

Darkpaw looked on with her purple gaze, letting the medicine cat apprentice yell her heart out. Her ear twitched as she listened. So she's blind, the black she-cat thought indifferently, I would have never guessed. Normally, when a cat ran away, she wouldn't care and just sit where she was. Yet, she felt that she could have a little... fun... with this she-cat.
Slowly and calmly, Darkpaw followed the trail of the she-cat. She could take her own sweet time, and it would give the she-cat enough time to make the game more interesting. And she would only stop to talk when Larkpaw decided to stop, if she decided to.
But when Darkpaw got close enough, she let her voice sound. This was rare, seeing how cold and heartless she was to the other cats. "I won't tell." she said in a little words as possible. "We're alike," she said, referring to the fact that both of them were picked on- that their parents didn't like them. She waited patiently for the medicine cat apprentice to respond.

Despite the sound of her own paws, Larkpaw easily heard Darkpaw's footsteps. Feeling her whiskers brush against a tree, she turned and shot up the pine, ending up a few tail lengths above the other cats head. Hearing the other cat talk, Larkpaw cocked her head, ears twitching. Alike? How so? She thought, eyes a sharp glare in the cat's general direction.
Larkpaw called out. "How? Do you wake up every morning to a sea of darkness?" She flatted her ears to her head, still defensive. She was in no mood for this.

"How? Do you wake up every morning to a sea of darkness?"
"In a way," Darkpaw sat in the grass, not bothering to chase after the medicine cat apprentice. She started licking her paw, grooming herself. This game was starting to get boring fast. Why does she continue to stay around? She couldn't care less about the other cats of the clan, if anyone. Deep inside, Darkpaw knew she was alone, but she would never admit it, not even to herself.
Ever since her parents' neglect towards her, she never wanted to trust or get near another cat again. She would always stay in the shadows. But sometimes she loved a little bit of fun.
"Clanmates, parents," she started. "They're my darkness. They're cold."
She waited for the medicine cat apprentice to reply, her tail calmly flowing from side to side. If this game of the mind didn't turn around soon, she would have to leave.

Larkpaw snorted. "That's a darkness you can escape from." She she-cat growled, not mentioning that that was a form of darkness for her - one that she'd left behind upon graduation from kithood. Bunching her muscle she leaped down from the tree. She didn't want to confide in anyone. She wanted to be alone. Very deliberately, the Medicine Cat Apprentice stalked away.
Larkpaw wasn't an easily friendly cat. She was easily defensive, sullen and angered. And, therefore, didn't have friends. The closest thing she'd ever had to a friend was her brother, and he'd been disowned by her along with her parents.

OOC: I am really, really sorry I;ve been away for so long! Like I said in my other threads, my life has been hectic and I haven't gotten much time. But I'm here now! Anyway, should Darkpaw eventually leave or keep trying (I'm basing off what Larkpaw would do)?
IC:
"That's a darkness you can escape from."
Darkpaw's ear twitched. A darkness she could get away from, hm? Well, she guessed that was true, and never thought about it until then. She watched as the medicine cat apprentice stalked away again, and the black cat only sat there. This game was boring, and she had nothing to gain. Larkpaw was being stubborn, and wouldn't give into mind games that easily. She should have just let her go.
Should have.
Darkpaw wasn't sure what led her to this action: stalking the medicine cat apprentice after her head-start. She had no idea why she was still slightly interested in this prey, instead of going after another. Maybe it was because she wanted a challenge (after all, it's no fun when it's too easy)? Maybe her personality, so much like her own, made her curious to learn more. Maybe- and she would never admit this on her own free will- she actually did want a friend.
Too many maybe's she couldn't answer.
If she had gotten close enough to Larkpaw, she would call out. "Blindness is your darkness?" She teased, but not in a mean way. "Blind, maybe you are. But you could see more than anyone. More than any of us."
Her tail waved back and forth calmly. She was not comfortable saying so much, but she had to, for the sake of her game. It was all for the game. "You're clever. Seen a cat's darkness. Maybe their light. Learned enough to save or kill a cat, your choice." She paused, letting the medicine cat apprentice absorb that. "Why run? You hold the clan together, or eventually will. Cats who don't see that, more blind than you could ever be. Without you, they'd fall apart and die uselessly in battle."

(Larkpaw probably won't ever really soften up, so.... Meh.)
Larkpaw stopped, scolding herself. Her temper could, would, and had gotten the better of her. However, before she could retrace her steps back to camp, she realized the other she-cat had followed. However, when, and for about a minute after, the other cat talked, she was stunned. Compliments were foreign to Larkpaw, as strange as Russian or Portuguese were to the better part of the USA. She didn't look the comical surprise - there was no jaw drop, no gasp. But, her paws froze in place for a few seconds, and her eyes widened. It quickly fell away to the permanent scowl and narrowed eyes.
It took her a few more seconds to come up with some way to contradict it. "Yeah, except I don't even know how to correctly apply marigold." She meowed, slight sarcasm on the first word. She couldn't think of much. She'd never had to contradict compliments before; only rarely had she been complimented, and then it had been halfhearted and quickly forgotten. It hadn't needed contradicting. And back then, if she had, it would set her apart from her family. Which wouldn't work. Back then, she couldn't avoid her family; now she could. And did.

Darkpaw did not let any emotions appear inside her head, but she let herself become intrigued by the progress internally. Maybe she had finally gotten the medicine cat spun around her paw and into the spider's web? She could see the gears of thought turning in the medicine cat apprentice's head, and she could only sit and watch. After all, this had better of worked.
Yeah, except I don't even know how to correctly apply marigold.
Darkpaw smirked internally, though on the outside she remained perfectly calm. There was hesitation, and thought, and careful planning. She was winning in her manipulation. And even if she lost, she would have learned from this for future mind battles. No, it would be too boring if she was to stop the mind games after this one night.
"Eventually, I said," the dark cat spoke, keeping her voice even. "No one knows everything in the beginning. It'd be too easy that way." Darkpaw thought carefully about her words. "If we knew how to win every game, then what is the fun of playing? There isn't. A challenge makes everything more interesting, no matter how horrible the boss battle. The harder the game, the more precious the victory."
