New-leaf, it was a beautiful time. The animals were out of their hibernation, plants were beginning to grow and herbs were bringing a fresh scent to the Windclan area. And it was here where a honey apprentice sat, waiting for her mentor.
"Hm..." Honeypaw thought to herself, licking a little bit of the honey that had been left over from the supplies. It wasn't much, she took maybe enough to soak one of her claws, and there was still plenty left in the store if the clan ever needed it. She just thought that maybe a little would do as she waited for her mentor.

"Hi, Honeypaw." Flowerpetal mewed. She padded to her apprentice. "Ready to learn about the traveling herb mixture?" She questioned the intelligent apprentice.

"Ready to learn about the traveling herb mixture?"
Honeypaw looked over to where her mentor, Flowerpetal, was standing and nodded eagerly, finishing off the rest of the honey that was on her paw. With a quick groom to get rid of any stickiness that may have remained on her paw, she thought about what would be needed in a traveling herb mixture.
"So, we'll need something for energy," She spoke aloud, hoping for her mentor's approval on her thought process. "Oh! And we'll need something to keep hunger away as well. What herbs do we use for that?" Honeypaw asked her mentor, pure and innocent curiousity in her voice. She was eager to learn what created such a powerful mixture that aided cats in adventures.

Flowerpetal chuckled. "There aren't herbs that can do that. The traveling herb mixture is the herb that gives cats strength. It is made up of daisy, sorrel, burnet and chamomile." Flowerpetal got each herb out for her apprentice to see.

"Daisy, sorrel, burnet and chamomile," she said, looking at each one carefully. She tried to find a way to remember them. Daisy leaves, they were dark green and oval shaped as well. Next she moved to sorrel, which was a lighter green than Daisy was. She had to make sure she could tell the difference in the two greens when the time came to it. The third was burnet, these leaves were smaller, growing on a stem and had serrated edges; that she could learn. The last was chamomile, the easiest one to tell. It was a small white flower with a yellow center.
"Daisy, dark green and oval," she said. "Sorrel, lighter green. Burnet is serrated. Chamomile is white and yellow."
She leaned down and smelled them to gather scents. "Where are these found?" she asked curiously.

"They are found in various places. Sorrel is found near Twoleg nests, Burnet is unknown because it found everywhere. The same thing is with Daisy. Chamomile is found in Twoleg gardens." Flowerpetal meowed. She was impressed at the ways Honeypaw was coming up with to remember the traveling herbs.

"Okay," Honeypaw closed her eyes, concentrating on a way to remember all the herbs and where they are found. "Daisy is dark and oval, burnet is dark and serrated; both are found everywhere. While Sorrel and Chamomile are light and white, and are found only near twolegs, where it's always light."
Honeypaw nodded. That would be easy to remember! She looked at the plants once more, naming them as she saw them. Then she looked at her mentor while smiling wide. "Did I get it right?" she asked.
Her green eyes glowed with a craving for more knowledge. "What else do I get to learn?"

"Very good." Flowerpetal purred. She told Honeypaw she would learn about adders and how to cure poison. Flowerpetal got some snakeroot and started to talk. "Adders are poisonous and can kill a cat. The best way to get an adder's poison out of a cat is by giving them snakeroot." She mewed. "It is unknown where it's found."

Honeypaw's ears flattened against her head as her fur bristled slightly. Adders! They were the worse of them all. The poison from their bite could kill a cat dead if not treated right away. Shivering, she looked at the miracle plant in front of her. It was an emerald green stem with many white buds protruding off of it.
"Snakeroot," she thought carefully. Besides the way the buds looked, there wasn't really a way to remember it by sight. But wait... when she looked closer, some of the white buds had little things growing from them that looked like a white snake's tongue. "That's it! The white buds have little stems that look like snake tongues!"
She leaned down and closed her eyes, taking in the scent. Snakeroot, used for snake bites. Green with white buds, some of which had little white stems of their own, looking like snake tongues. And this was the scent.
"What else?" she asked, wanting to know more!

"Very good, my dear." Flowerpetal purred. She had a very intelligent apprentice. "I think we can learn about wounds." Flowerpetal took some marigold. "We use this for minor bloody wounds. If they are only small wounds, we use this." Flowerpetal nodded to the cobwebs. "We use cobwebs for very bloody wounds."

"Marigold..." Honeypaw bent down to smell the sweet herb. It's scent would linger in her brain, and she seemed to love it. It was a golden flower, just as its name suggested, and the petals were skinny and long. She smiled, thinking this just had to be one of her favorite herbs. "So marigold would be used for small wounds by using the poultice, right?"
"It must grow near water, since it's so juicy..." Honeypaw muttered, loud enough for Flowerpetal to hear.
Her golden head turned towards the cobwebs. It was obvious what they looked like, and where they came from. She shivered, for the mere fact that she could not stand spiders. But if it was for the good of the clan, she would have to. "Cobwebs are used for large wounds or heavy bleeding," she repeated what her mentor has just said. She put her paw on the cobweb, surprised to find it so sticky. "Would you use this for setting broken bones as well?" she asked.

"Yes, that is correct. You can bind a broken leg or part of a cat in cobwebs to keep the bone in place." Flowerpetal started to gather alder bark.

"So what else am I learning?" Honeypaw asked, looking over her mentor to see what else she was bringing out. As she did, she thought about what she knew so far. Daisy was a plant who's leaves were oval and dark green. Sorrel is similar, but a lighter green. Burnet is dark and serraded, and chamomile is a white flower with a yellow middle. Daisy and burnet are found everywhere, while sorrel and chamomile are from twoleg gardens. All four are used in a traveling mixture.
Snakeroot is a green plant with many white buds that have little white stems of their own, looking like snake tongues. They are used for getting rid of adder and other snake poison.
Marigold is a gold flower with a sweet scent and long, skinny, yellow petals. It's poultice is used for minor bleeding. Cobwebs, on the other hand, were used for heavy bleeding, large wounds, and setting broken bones.

Flowerpetal continued to gather the bark. It was a very useful herb for queens and elders.

OOC: Sorry for the late post. I've been distracted by stuff the last couple days!
IC: Honeypaw managed to look over her mentor to see what she was bringing out, recognizing it after some trouble. She smelled it and her face lit up, finally knowing something. "Oh! That's alder bark, isn't it? I remember you getting that for one of the elders when I was a little younger. Toothaches it's used for, right?" Honeypaw's eyes brightened with memory. "I remember them complaining about it after chewing on some hard bones. We gather them from the alder trees that grow near the borders, where the forests are, but we have to be careful not to damage the bark..."
Honeypaw's gaze fell on the ground. "Sorry, Flowerpetal. I didn't mean to interrupt. That was rude of me..."
